Aikido is not for everyone. We understand this and strongly encourage you to be thorough in your evaluation of this most subtle and sophisticated martial art. Keep in mind that at it's inception only advanced martial artists from other disciplines were even invited to participate. On our Video Clips page you will see a wide variety of masters making what seem to be effortless moves and manuvers, only to have their attackers energetically dispensed with. Remember, these 'seemingly effortless' actions took many years of committed, consistent training in the same techniques, over and over, and over and over again--before they became second nature.

Sometimes we have people call and ask how long it will take them to 'get their blackbelt'. We question their motivation. Many in aikido understand that testing and belts are just new beginnings on the path of mastery. Aikido isn't  'fast food fu'! If you are interested in more than just a 'belt', and are looking for training in one of the most advanced martial arts created to date, an art that can be brutal when necessary, but as its highest aim seeks for the peaceful resolution of conflict, consider Rockford Aikido.

To see if aikido is for you please visit us and watch a class or two. There is no obligation or pressure. In fact, the Gymnastics Academy of Rockford has an upstairs observation area for your convenience.

Your first few months in aikido are the most important, because this is where the foundation begins to be laid. Many beginners realize during this early stage that they really don't want to follow through and do what's necessary to get on the path to successfully learn aikido. This is fine. The reason it's mentioned here is because the nonrefundable startup costs to consider for your first three months include academy and federation membership fees, as well as monthly dues. Add to that your purchase of the proper uniform(s), and expect your out of pocket expense for your first three months to be between $200 and $250.

There after regular practice is $50.00/month.

12 consecutive months of dues paid waives membership fees.

Note: Rockford Aikikai membership includes the additional benefit of no cost training at affiliated schools in the surrounding area.

Testing and Seminar fees vary.
